Gong cha, the renowned Taiwanese bubble tea brand established in 2006, is making its first entry into the Arizona market through a multi-unit franchise agreement with Blu Tea Arizona.
This expansion will introduce Gong cha stores in key Phoenix-area cities including Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler, reinforcing the brand’s growing presence in the Western United States.
With over 240 locations across 21 U.S. states, Gong cha is accelerating its domestic growth as part of a strategic plan to reach more than 500 stores nationwide by 2028.
The Arizona expansion is led by Fernando Ochoa, president of Blu Tea Arizona, an experienced franchisee group that has successfully operated Gong cha outlets in other territories and is now embarking on its third territory expansion with the brand.
Ochoa highlighted the appeal of Gong cha’s premium product and scalable business model, stating that the brand’s strong demand and operational flexibility made it an ideal choice for diversifying their franchise portfolio. The partnership aims to rapidly grow multiple stores throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Arizona’s year-round warm climate, increasing bubble tea awareness, and a demographic with over 22% of residents aged 15 to 29—Gong cha’s core customer base—create favorable conditions for the brand’s sustained success in the state.
Globally, Gong cha boasts nearly 2,200 locations in 29 countries and is recognized as a leader in the tea category, having been ranked #1 in Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500® list for four consecutive years. The brand’s entry into Arizona marks a significant milestone in its ongoing U.S. expansion and reflects its commitment to bringing premium bubble tea experiences to new markets.
